Montgomery College
In an effort to tackle parking challenges on campus, this cast-in-place, post-tensioned concrete garage provides plenty of parking spaces for the campus community. The structure is supported by a Geopier foundation system and wrapped with a complete structural steel facade. Ease of finding a parking space is facilitated by an electronic vehicle occupancy count system that alerts users to the number of spaces available on each level at any given time. The structure includes numerous sustainable design features, such as energy efficient building systems, low VOC sealants and coatings, and bioretention storm water management facilities. Landscaping around the structure helps integrate the garage into the campus environment. Located in the heart of the campus, with 15 feet separating the edge of the garage and the main campus drive on one side and less than 20 feet separating a major pedestrian sidewalk on the other. Working on a fully operational campus, the team adjusted the sequencing and timing of sitework to minimize the impact to campus operations.
