KNOX COUNTY, TN 鈥 Olive Tree Learning Academy, a vital provider of trauma-responsive early childhood education in Knox County, recently hosted its first-ever fundraising event, A Seat at the Table, drawing about 100 guests despite a night of hail, rain, and thunderstorms. The evening marked a powerful moment for the organization, raising more than $33,000 in immediate donations and multi-year pledges.
Olive Tree serves 68 children, nearly 70% of whom come from low-income families and 50% from single-parent households. As the only school in the area offering infant care鈥攚ith just eight spots and over 200 families on the waitlist鈥攖he need for affordable, high-quality early education is pressing.
鈥淎ccess to early learning shouldn鈥檛 be a privilege鈥攊t should be a promise,鈥 said a representative from Olive Tree. 鈥淥ur work is about ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has a chance to thrive from the very beginning.鈥
That mission received a major boost thanks to the volunteer efforts of the Christman Company in the days leading up to the event. A team of employees鈥擬arty Gibbs, Nick Lawrence, Jeff Arlington, Wayne Cochran, Andy Westbrook, Tory Knight, Steven Smith, Ty Edsell, Shannon Hollie, Megan Paine, Doug Lawyer, and Camden Baker鈥攄edicated their time to landscaping, laying mulch on the playground, power washing the facility, and assisting with event setup. Their hands-on support helped prepare the campus and allowed the Olive Tree team to focus on what mattered most: connecting with the community and sharing their vision.
鈥淭he Christman team showed up at just the right moment,鈥 said Olive Tree staff. 鈥淭heir support wasn鈥檛 just helpful鈥攊t was essential. They truly helped us bring this event to life.鈥
The fundraiser highlighted the value of early childhood education not only for individual children and families but for the community as a whole. With families currently paying only 55% of the actual cost of care, the funds raised will help bridge that gap and expand Olive Tree鈥檚 reach. The team is already looking ahead to growth, hopeful that with continued community involvement and investment, they can meet the rising demand.
鈥淓very dollar and every volunteer hour helps us create a more equitable future for children in our city,鈥 the Olive Tree representative added. 鈥淲e鈥檙e incredibly thankful for everyone who believes in this work.鈥
Olive Tree Learning Academy continues to welcome volunteers, donors, and community partners. Tours are available for those interested in learning more about how the organization is changing lives鈥攐ne child at a time.
